The Great Gatsby: Chapters 8 and 9

Chapter 8:
Narrative Style:
This chapter is seen from Nicks viewpoint but is the same as when it is seen from Jordans point of view in the sense that Nick is talking about Gatsbys past. The main events in this chapter is the death of Gatsby at the hands of Wilson.

Charecters/charectisation:
In this chapter we see Wilson jump to conclusions in which Gatsby pays the price for, as Wilson thinks Gatsby was driving the car that killed his wife;Myrtle.
This chapter also shows the way the Buchanans lie their way out of sticky situations they find themselves in (caused by themselves) then go on like nothing happened after.

Setting:
The main setting for chapter 8 is Gatsbys mansion most of the what happens in here is the conversation between Gatsby and Nick.

Theme:
There is the theme of love in this chapter still due to the romance between Gatsby and daisy.
There is also the theme of death/revenge because Wilson thinks he is getting revenge for killing Gatsby when he is actually innocent.

Chapter 9
Narrative style:
This chapter is seen through Nicks point of veiw yet again but he now has a different feeling of anger due to everyone decline invitations to Gatsbys funeral even Daisy after she had got so close to him too.

Charecters/charecterisation:
We now meet Gatsbys father in this chapter his name is Mr Gatz this shows that Gatsby changed his name as it sounds more upper class. Mr Gatz also doesnt take his son back to the west with him because he said that Gatsby always liked the east better.

Setting:
The settings in this chapter see to switch between Gatsbys funeral and his mansion inconsistently making it very confusing to judge he setting.

Theme:
The main theme is greif due to Gatsbys death mainly felt by Nick but also by others like Daisy and Mr Gatz.
Another theme is also hatred which is the way Nick feels towards Tom when he finds out Toms part in Gatsbys death.
